Eng. P. M Kimari
Patrick is a registered Professional Engineer with Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), member of Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and a licensed Class A energy auditor with Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
Patrick is the founding Director of Centre for Biomass Energy Studies (CBES). Besides being the Director at CBES, Patrick works as a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering at the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology. His brief includes delivery of lectures and tutorials, supervision of students’ projects, and carrying out university-supported consultancy work. His class lectures, tutorials, and supervision work are on energy management, renewable energy technologies, power plant engineering, and thermodynamics. 
Patrick also consults for various institutions on energy projects feasibility studies, design, modeling & Simulation for various clients based on solar, wind, hydro, and biomass renewable energy technologies.  He also carries out all types of energy audits (benchmarking, walkthrough, general, investment, and simulation) for industrial, commercial, and residential facilities besides offering professional training in energy management and climate change.
Previously he worked for KTDA among other organizations. Professionally, he is a renewable energy/energy efficiency expert and haswritten a book on biomass cogeneration in Tea factories and has also authored several conference papers.
Kevin Okoth
Kevin leads CBES Professionalization of clean cookstoves under the Promotion of Climate-Friendly Cooking: Kenya and Senegal project.
Kevin joined CBES in October 2021. Before joining CBES, Kevin worked as Project Manager at KOMAZA under a sustainable charcoal production entrepreneurial system and develop other forms of biomass energy within the coastal region. Prior to KOMAZA, he worked as an Energy Technical Officer under Safe Access to Fuel and Energy within Dadaab refugee camps, and prior to that, he worked as Energy Technology Mentor with GVEP International and was a Forestry/Biofuels Officer at Bamburi Cement.
Kevin has over 13 years of experience in bioenergy value chains and his background is in Wood Science and Technology from Moi University and is pursuing a Master in Climate Change Adaptation. A strong environmental advocate, he is passionate about sustainable clean energy and agroforestry.
John Kariuki
John was appointed CBES Finance and Administration Officer in November 2021. In this role, John is responsible for all finance and accounting operations in the Centre.
Prior to joining CBES John worked as an Assistant Accountant at the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology and as a Financial Advisor at ICEA Lion Group.
John has over 8 years of experience in finance with a focus in accounting and holds a Commerce degree finance option from DeKUT.
Vincent Magu
As the administrative assistant and visibility lead, Vincent runs the CBES office and supports all Centre project activities.
 He partners closely with his colleagues and the University ICT department to develop and disseminate informationrelated to all projects and research.
He spends time with staff to know their needs and provide the necessary support to drive the Centre’s activities. Previously, Vincent was an Audit Assistant at MK Associates where he focused on budget analyses, income and expenditures, and statutories. Vincent has a Commerce background in HR & Marketing from Strathmore Business School.
Magdaline Muigai
Magdaline joined CBES in October 2021 as a Project Officer and leads the Centre in the design & fabrication of improved cookstoves (ICS) under the Promotion of Climate-Friendly Cooking: Kenya and Senegal project.
She is in charge of the analysis and enhancement of combustion efficiency. She also leads the creation of awareness in the clean cooking environment, gender, and environmental mainstreaming during the Professionalization of ICS production.
Prior to joining CBES, Magdaline worked as a graduate assistant in the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology’s Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Magdaline holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology and is a graduate member of the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
Dennis Nyamu
Dennis is a graduate civil engineer passionate about new structural building technologies.
He is in charge of the Cantre’s civil works including design and construction and is inspired by the impact of engineering infrastructure on society. Dennis enjoys design work, reading, and connecting with new people to learn from different perspectives to have positive impact on the world.
Jacob Nyareru
Jacob joined CBES in December 2021 to lead the Centre’s local content development. Joining us from Muharata Food Company, where for over 2 years he worked as a Design Engineer.
 Jacob has a background in Mechanical Engineering from DeKUT and is a graduate member of the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
Jacob has research interests in biomass and biogas energy and is a candidate for MSc. Mechanical Engineering at the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology.
John Wahome
As the System Design and Program lead, John oversees the development of designs including electrical & electronic circuits designs.
 John joined CBES in August 2021 from the Centre for Development of Electronic Devices (CDED) in the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology.
At CDED, John oversaw the design of a variety of prototypes including speed limiters, solar energy token meters, water tank level controllers, street and floodlights monitors, and motor vehicle trackers.
John is passionate about electronic circuit design and systems automation and has a background in Mechatronics Engineering from the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology.
